JaMe-system pleated shade sewing instructions

The length of the fabric should be at least 8 cm more than the lower fold measurement and 6-–8 cm more than the width of the finished shade.

  1. Sew the edges of the fabric.

  1. Make a 2 cm fold at the upper part of the shade and check that it is at an angle of 90 degrees. You can check this using a table corner or by measuring 60 cm from the edge of the shade to the middle of the shade and then down 80 cm from the same corner. Then mark the places with pins. It should now be 100 cm from pin to pin.

  1. Sew the velcro tape onto the upper half of the shade.

  1. Measure from the upper fold and mark with pins on the wrong side of the fabric all of the places for the support ribs (according to the table) and also mark the place of the lower fold (at several points of the shade’s width).

  1. Make a fold at the marked points (ironing will guarantee the best result).

  1. Sew the rib channels around 9 mm from the fold.

  1. Make the lower weight channel.

  1. Thread the ribs and the lower weight into place.

  1. Build the lifting mechanism.

  1. Attach the sticker rail to the shade.

  1. Thread the lift cords through the pleat equalisers and lock the lower pleat equaliser to the lift cords with the help of the cord lock.

  1. Pleat the shade so that the gaps of between the ribs are about 5 cm and attach the equalisers to the ribs in a straight line at the point where the cord descends from the rope cord controllers.

  1. Fix the mechanism to the holders. Check the length of the pull cord and pull the shade up by tightening every lift cord and make a knot on the pull cord.

Updating (changing) a fixed lifting mechanism into the JaMe-system pleated Roman shade e.g. with a wooden strip and eye screws.

  1. Thread the pleat equalisers onto the lift cord and lock the lowest one with a cord lock.

  1. Attach the shade to the strip.

  1. Attach the outermost pleat equalisers to the shade.

  1. Raise the shade up and attach the remaining pleat equalisers so that they are vertically in line.

  1. Check the lengths of the cords and when needed make a new knot on the pull cord.

Further instructions and tips

Tip 1.

When constructed according to the table, the hem of the shades remains hidden behind the lower pleat. If you want the hem to show then add 5 cm extra to the measurement of the lower fold.

Example 1. If you want a 140 cm shade, choose the 135 cm shade from the table, making the length of the shade 140 cm

Tip 2.

If you want the “pelmet” to be higher than e.g. 15 cm, choose 15 cm shorter shade from the table and add 15 cm to every rib and lower fold measurement.

Example 2. If you want a 140 cm shade, choose the 125 cm shade from the table.
